Love this. I'm so bummed you're allergic silver because I've been hoping for a deep dive on silver. How to source taxco, Georg Jensen and lesser known makers, repousse jewelry, etc

Looking forward to adding more bakelite to the mix! As I mentioned, it’s such a great way to incorporate color. If you have any favorite bakelite dealers, please share—I’d love to check them out!

Late to the party but as a vintage jewelry lover, I really enjoyed this post! Made me subscribe ✨ one question… what do you do to keep the brooch from sagging when you are wearing it with thinner textile such as a tee or a blouse? Any tricks?

Expand full comment

Hi! Thank you for subscribing! This is a tricky one…I’m just mindful about the weight and the size of the brooch when pairing with clothing. Delicate tops I shy away from pinning just because I’m wary of damaging to fabric or making holes unless it’s a scarf thats been folded over or tied. I tend to reserve brooches for sturdier fabrics or lapels. But I did come across these which I haven’t tried yet - brooch sponges to support the piece! Worth a look!

Thank you for replying! That’s a nifty trick. I’m definitely going to try that. Maybe I could even use cut up felt pieces

I have actually had my eye on a few Taxco Mexican silver pieces! Personally silver looks better on me, I find a beautiful silver and gold bone cuff that very much resembles the one you put in your post 🙂

for "modern" bakelite I love this indie designer--she has a plant-based acetate she sources from Italy! https://wolljewelry.com/pages/about

Loved this! I also go to the source--I was deep in a quest for a bean charm and instead of waiting on drops from American dealers I.... now.... follow who they follow in the UK! (I bought mine secondhand from a collector stateside but she had the link and detailed pics to prove it) I'd rather pony up for shipping/taxes and be sure of what I'm getting!
