I completely agree. I would much rather have a beautiful, unique piece than something everyone else has. That being said, I do have a silver Tiffany cuff, but I bought it used at a very good price and I do love it.
Thank you for reading and chiming in, Liz! It's all about finding something that resonates with you personally. And yes, it's so true that what we feel good in is deeply personal and unique to each of us. Out of curiosity, which Tiffany cuff do you have?
Oh Veronica, I love reading your newsletter. It’s like a course on the history of jewelry! I wish you all the success possible because you are so generous with your knowledge
I agree that the various hardstones used by Van Cleef & Arpels offer more possibilities for unique pieces. I love that they use stones like carnelian, turquoise, chrysoprase, and even jade, which I’ve seen at auction in the past. Thank you for reading and chiming in!
I bought my engagement ring diamond because old cuts have always appealed to me visually; personal values; but because I specifically wanted something rare, specialized, and different (guilty!). But I’m also thinking about this topic as antique labs and modern antique cuts improve due to increased demand.
I do have a Tank. It’s not rare, I just like it. Everything is a decision at some point - whether to opt in or opt out.
I like to buy from certain brands. Ippolita, H Stern, Yurman and Tiffany. I like bigger brands because their findings are sturdy and they Hopefully have a recipe for their jewelry alloy. I like my gold to match.
I’ve purchased jewelry from smaller brands where the earring posts were too small and thin. French wires too thin and small. Smaller brands probably use generic hooks and posts, backings whereas bigger brands have them made to their specs.

Gahhhh thank you so much Larissa! xx
I haven’t wanted the Cartier bracelet because it’s too ubiquitous. The Van cleef , I do love! The different colours are fantastic for an accessory

I don’t like inlay.

Exactly. Rebekah, which stone did you decide on?? You must send me a photo once the ring is finished!
The elongated pear! I will 🥰
